Since we’re well into the first month of the New Year, you’ve hopefully been keeping your resolutions and even considering a few new ones to add. At Fast New Smile Dental Implant Center, we try to encourage our patients to make the care of their teeth a priority all year round, not just when they’re making resolutions. Oral hygiene is an important part of your overall health. If you’re looking to include improving the health of your teeth in your resolutions this year, we have a few suggestions for you!
Brush Your Tongue
Not many people brush their tongue as part of their daily dental care. However, people would be surprised to know that most of the bacteria in your mouth sits on your tongue and can cause bad breath. Make it a point to brush your tongue while you’re brushing your teeth and dental implants. Go from the back of your tongue to the front to clear away bacteria.
Avoid Brushing too Hard
In the dental industry, we see people who brush their teeth so aggressively that you’d think it was a competition. While brushing your teeth often is a great habit to get into, avoid brushing your teeth and gums too hard. Brushing too hard and using a toothbrush with hard bristles can erode enamel on your natural teeth and even cause negative affects on your single dental implants. Talk to your dentist about the right toothbrush for your teeth so you can be sure you’re doing the best you can to care for your oral hygiene.
Drink More Water
When you drink water, your entire body benefits. It’s proven to help your skin, increase the chances of weight loss, and many other things. For your mouth and teeth specifically, it rinses off gross bacteria sitting on your bridge implants or your tongue. It also helps you produce more saliva which combats dangerous bacteria in your mouth. Make it a priority to drink the water your body needs.
Make Regular Dentist Appointments
We understand that visiting the dentist is rarely someone’s favorite part of the day. However, it’s very important that you go for regular teeth cleaning and checkups to make sure you’re teeth are in good shape. Dr. Almasri is our prosthodontist and always recommends bi-annual check ups and to play it safe when it comes to teeth. If you suspect something doesn’t feel like it should, check in with your dentist.
